There are many stores as to the beginning of Valentines day and how all this love tradition started. The one that seems the most interesting is the story of the Lupercalia Festival.

The month of February was commonly considered a time of purification and the official beginning of spring around 270 AD. This was a time when people would clean out their homes and sprinkle salt and spelt around to aid in the cleaning process.

The festival would begin on February 15th when the Luperci, Roman priests, would come together in a cave. Once there they would sacrifice a dog for purification and a goat for fertility.
